Garmin Nuvi 1340
A step up in the Nuvi 1300 series, the Garmin Nuvi 1340 has a few extras you won't find on the basic 1300 model. You might wonder, though, if the differences warrant paying the extra $50 that the 1340 costs. You still get the same 4.3-inch touchscreen, the same millions of points of interest, the same bright colors, and many of the other same features, so why does it cost more, and is the additional cost worth it? This article will explain the differences between the two models and let you decide which one is the right GPS system for your needs.

Garmin 1340

All models in the 1300 line come with sunlight-readable displays that can be seen from any direction. They all have maps, driving directions, and speech-to-text. The difference between the 1300 and the Garmin Nuvi 1340 is that the 1340 is equipped with City Navigator North America, which means you can have access to maps of Canada as well as those of the United States and Puerto Rico. If you are a frequent traveler in these areas, then the extra $50 you pay for this model will be well spent. You'll enjoy having all the latest driving, pedestrian, and mass transit information you need available at your fingertips during your travels throughout the North American continent.

The Nuvi 1340 also includes the following features which aren't available on the 1300:

* Lane assist which tells you which lane you need to be in to make turns and take exits. This unit also displays arrows that show you which lanes you should be in so that you'll be headed in the right direction.

* Speed limit display tells you how fast you should be going and lets you know when the limit changes.

* GTM 25 travel information which will alert you to traffic problems up ahead as well as tell you how heavy the traffic is on the route you are taking. The GPS will then give you alternate routes as needed to avoid delays.

So what do you think? If you live in Canada, the Garmin Nuvi 1340 will obviously give you the capabilities you need to travel in your country as well as in the United States. Do you often drive in unfamiliar areas or big cities? Lane assist could be a real safety feature for you if you do. No doubt everyone could benefit from knowing the speed limit, but if you aren't going to pay any attention to it even if you do know it, there's really not much point in having it displayed. Travel information is another great thing to have when you travel. If you don't live in a metropolitan area or don't travel around much, you may not need this feature.

With all the new Garmin Nuvi models that are being introduced onto the market in May, the features you need and will use are going to have the biggest impact on your choice. With totally new 1200 and 1300 series' of GPS models, you'll be smart to assess your needs before you begin looking for the model that will be the most cost-effective as well as functional for you. You may well decide that the Garmin Nuvi 1340 is the one for you.
